TriVita -- Autumn Pleasures
How will you spend the festive fall this year?
The leaves are changing color, the air is crisp, and the weather is finally cooling off. It must be assign that autumn is here and summer is now behind us. What better time to spend outdoors than this cool season. There are plenty of activities you can do on your own or with your family to enjoy this time of change. Before heading out the door, grab your camera, a warm jacket and a map. It’s time to hit the road!
So where does your map point to? Here are some suggestions for fun fall happenings:
**Visit an apple orchard
This is a great activity to get everyone outside and take part in the autumn harvest. You can pick apples, drink a cup of hot cider and take in the fresh air. If you have kids with you, have them bring a paper bag and collect different objects, like the ever-changing leaves that have fallen to the ground. They can use what they collect for craft projects at home. Capture these moments with your camera. You never know when you’ll get a perfect shot for your upcoming holiday card. When the year comes to an end, you can collect all the photos you’ve taken and create your own calendar.
**Find a pumpkin patch
Pumpkins are great fall vegetables. Find the ones that are best for cooking recipes. Whether you want to make pumpkin soup or pumpkin pie, or if you just want to scoop out a pumpkin’s seeds and toast them, every pumpkin has a unique use. For more information on choosing your pumpkins, go to: http://www.pumpkinrecipes.us. Also, check for fun-filled activities at your local pumpkin patch. Oftentimes, for a small entry free, you can go on limitless hayrides, visit a petting zoo and go through corn mazes. The kids will love walking around, and you’ll enjoy wonderful memories of a beautiful fall day.
**Visit a farmer’s market
Autumn is a great time to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables from your local farmer’s market. Dice up fruit to make a fruit salad, or grill some vegetables to eat with your meals. The healthiest fruits and vegetables to buy in season are: avocados, sweet potatoes, leeks, broccoli, spinach, eggplants, kiwi, apples and pears.
**Plan a trip
Consider taking a trip to a different part of the country. If you live on the West Coast, travel to the East Coast, and see how different fall looks. Or if the weather has gotten too cold too quickly, travel to a warmer destination. Sometimes, a long distance trip isn’t necessary. You could find different seasons within your own state. Sunny Arizona is a perfect example. The sun shines throughout autumn in the capital city of Phoenix – but take a two-hour trip up north, and you’ll be nestled by beautiful trees changing their colors. Autumn is a great time to appreciate God’s creation and all it has to offer.
However you choose to spend your autumn months, make it an adventure and keep it healthy! Don’t let time escape you – before you know it, winter will be at your door.
