Omega-3 Deficiency in Kids

Omega 3 fatty acids are not just important to adults, but according to an article by Vital Choice, many US and Canadian kids are deemed omega-3 deficient.

“The omega-3s found only in fish and fish oil, called EPA and DHA - are essential to health at all stages of life.

For infants up to the age of three, DHA is required for proper development of the brain and eyes.

After that, both EPA and DHA are important for thinking, learning, and memory, and research suggests that they may moderate behavior.

Humans can make EPA and DHA from the plant-form omega-3 called ALA.

But this is a very inefficient process that can be further reduced by the excess omega-6 fat intake characteristic of North American diets, and by genetic or other factors.[1]”

Omega- 3 fatty acids are just as important to adults as in kids. There are many health organizations that recommend either eating fish high in fatty acids, or taking a supplement. How you get the necessary omega-3 fatty acids is not as important as making sure your body receives them.

The American Heart Association recommends eating fish (particularly fatty fish such as mackerel, lake trout, herring, sardines, albacore tuna, and salmon) at least 2 times a week. It is advised that pregnant women and mothers, nursing mothers, young children, and women who might become pregnant not eat several types of fish, including swordfish, shark, and king mackerel. These individuals should also limit consumption of other fish, including albacore tuna, salmon, and herring. They can take omega-3 fatty acids in quality dietary supplements that are certified mercury-free by a reputable third-party lab, like TriVita's Omega Prime.

OmegaPrime's EFAs support our wellness in so many ways, starting with helping to reduce runaway inflammation. Many of us don't realize this, but runaway inflammation can lead to various serious health problems in the body involving the heart, arteries, lungs, joints and more. But the EFAs support the body's health by helping to:

  • Reduce Cardiovascular Inflammation -- which lowers the risks of heart disease, heart attack and stroke
  • Lessen Joint Inflammation -- which eases joint pain & inflammation for increased flexibility
  • Relieve Respiratory Inflammation – which lessens any inflammation-related to allergies and asthma.

Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.
