Omega Prime

Most health conscious individuals already know that fish oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids. However, how many of you know that these fatty acids are called docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Not a big deal, I just thought I'd share what I've learned while learning more about omega-3 fatty acids.

Now the BIG DEAL! These phenomenal nutrients have been scientifically proven to help with a host of health problems-including inflammation, high blood pressure, heart illnesses, memory problems, and high cholesterol, just to name a few.

A simple known fact, your body can't naturally produce essential fatty acids-so you've got to get them from foods or supplements.

Unfortunately the majority of our diets are extremely low in Omega-3s. However, most diets contain 10 times more Omega-6s than we need! This imbalance, between omega-3s and omega-6s, triggers painful inflammation that has been proven, through scientific research, to wreak havoc with your health!

This dietary imbalance of omega-3s and omega-6s is why many health conscious individuals choose to take fish oil supplements. Fish oil is one of the few nutrients that contains a rich source of Omega-3s. On the down side, not all fish oil supplements are created equal.

Fish oil is typically manufactured from large predator fish, which, in some cases, is loaded with dangerous toxins, PCBs, mercury and other heavy metals that can be dangerous to your health!

As mentioned previously, not all omega-3 supplements are created equal. It's very important to find a product that has passed specific guidelines regarding the purity if the fish oil. TriVita's Omega Prime is one such product.

TriVita's Omega Prime uses only contaminant-free fish oil that has undergone a 10 stage distilling process. Plus Omega Prime helps meet the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. One daily dose of Omega Prime provides the amount of Omega-3 recommended by the AHA for healthy individuals, as well as for those who have heart disease or the risk of it.

This rich abundance of Omega-3s-can quickly help balance the high levels of Omega-6s you consume in your diet each day-and even help UNDO some of the common damages that can lead to a host of health problems!

Are you eating fish 16 times a week? According to some articles, that's how much fatty fish, like salmon and mackerel, you'd need to eat to gain the Omega-3 benefits to help you prevent cardiovascular problems, mental decline, or vision problems!

Research shows that you need around 3,000 mg of Omega-3 just to maintain your health. So what does that mean? You would have to eat fish at least four times a week to get the needed omega-3s just to maintain your health.

If you already have heart problems - high cholesterol or triglycerides - or other cardiovascular problems-you need at least 12,000 mg of omega-3 per week; that's equates to eating fish 16 times a week!

And don't forget, fish can often contain those dangerous toxins (PCBs, mercury and other heavy metals) that can build up in your cells and cause health problems. That's why eating fish sixteen times a week may not be a healthy choice!

It's always best to check with your doctor or health professional before taking any supplements. However, with the known facts of the important health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, I do not see any reason for not taking the Omega Prime supplement, but than again, I'm not a doctor.
