Our nation, the United States of America, is becoming bigger with each passing moment. Now I'm not talking about the number of people, but rather the size of the people. Yes, obesity is running rampant in the USA.
If we don't start controlling the our eating habits, and the eating habits of our children, we are going to wind up as one BIG fat nation.
The sobering fact is our nation's continuing to expand (at the waistline) at an alarming rate. This is not just a problem with the current population, but also a growing problem with immigrants. There are plenty of articles written about the obesity problem in the US. There have also been many case studies done that reveal those sobering facts.
Migrating to the United States, the land of opportunity, has seemed to create a sense of leisure and laziness. This negative effect can be seen just by looking at the increase in obesity. It seems that laziness, fast food, and technology have replaced hard work, diet, exercise, and physical activity. No wonder we have an increase in obesity.
In a study of obesity that was conducted a few years ago by Dr. Mita Sanghavi Goel of Northwestern University in Chicago, said, "Trends in obesity among immigrants may reflect acculturation and adoption of the U.S. lifestyle, such as increased sedentary behavior and poor dietary patterns."
Dr. Goel went on to say, "They may also be a response to the physical environment of the United States, with increased availability of calorically dense foods and higher reliance on labor-saving technologies."
So how do we get back to loosing weight, and to become a healthier nation? We start with diet and exercise. We have to avoid the fast food restaurants, and start eating more healthy foods, foods that bring nourishment to the body. We have to avoid foods that do nothing to improve the health of our bodies.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), physical activity, like daily brisk walks, regimented exercise routines, and good nutrition are essential to prevent chronic diseases and obesity. I've been writing about the problem of obesity for several months now, and it seems to be getting worse.
